Artistic bio

Alex (she/they) is a Naarm-based artist whose work spans theatre-making, music and visual art. Living and working on unseeded Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung land, Alex is a graduate of VCA with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre-Making.
Throughout her education, Alex has had experience as a director, writer, designer and maker/performer with an emerging practice centring the creation of diverse and meaningful representation within so-called “Australia’s” theatre sector. As a queer, non-binary and autistic artist, their advocacy for inclusivity currently centres the de-stigmatisation of Autism, specifically as it intersects with their existence as a young femme person.
Her devised work currently explores the functions of feminism and the development of social norms in a post-Web 2.0 world. Alex’s work aims to engage a range of media, at present, puppetry and technology-forward making.
With European colonial roots, Alex continually strives to deconstruct her ingrained colonial thinking and practices within her work.
Her practice, separate to theatre-making, involves heading the band ‘BIG CAT’, releasing their debut EP ‘LIGHT WOUND’ in mid-2025. She is also an exhibiting artist, her practice primarily in linocut and oil pastel works examining her childhood, her identity as a young femme person and processes of decay and regeneration
They were awarded the Portland House Theatre Bursary for theatre excellence in 2023. Notable works include PHASES (2024) as part of the Altar State Festival, “Bobby” in SHIT by Patricia Cornelius for Barkly Theatre ( 2025) and FIX HIM (2025, Written, Directed and performed by Alex) for MUSE Festival.
